Two thousand five saw the rise of the API: an open interface that allows outsiders access to data. Just about every major search company and “web 2.0″ sites offer an API that developers can use to create their own “mashups”. Google’s Map API is one of the easiest and most flexible out there. But don’t be scared. Google Maps does not require you to be a “l33t hax0r” to include a map on your site. With a little data and these five easy steps, you can have a Google map on your site too.

Thanks for this Chris. I have been looking over the API and you helped pull it together nicely. I know what I’ll be doing this weekend, putting Google maps all over the place :).

Hope its useful for you. Google just announced Version 2 of their API (they’ve been developing it for a while). I will need to do a follow up because there are some changes.
